Ms. Anita S. Magrath
Biography
Ms. Anita Sharma Magrath is a highly experienced instructional leader with a distinguished career in education. She began her journey in Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia as a first-grade teacher. Early in her career, she recognized the critical connection between social-emotional learning and academic achievement, which inspired her to become a school counselor.
During her tenure as a counselor, Ms. Magrath initiated an award-winning mentor program and developed a highly successful social-emotional program for her students. Recognizing her leadership potential, her mentor guided her towards administration. She served as an assistant principal for ten years in Fairfax before advancing to the role of principal in Prince William County Public Schools.
In November 2020, Ms. Magrath enthusiastically joined the DoDEA in Japan. She has served as the principal at Sollars Elementary in Misawa and Yokota West Elementary in Yokota, Japan. Her focus has always been on building strong collaborative teams dedicated to academic excellence. Her educational philosophy is simple: do whatever it takes to create an engaging learning environment for all students. She firmly believes that "no significant learning can occur without a significant relationship."
Ms. Magrath holds a bachelor's degree in education from George Mason University, a master's degree in School Counseling from Virginia Tech University, and completed her credentials in School Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.
